Perl is a high-level, general-purpose, dynamic programming language created by Larry Wall and first released in 1987. Originally designed for text processing and report generation, it combines features from C, sed, awk, and shell scripting, and is renowned for its powerful regular expressions and flexible, expressive syntax.
Perl is widely used for text manipulation, system administration, web development (via CGI and frameworks), bioinformatics, and gluing systems together. Its CPAN archive offers a vast collection of reusable modules. While newer languages have grown in popularity, Perl remains a reliable workhorse for scripting and data-wrangling tasks.
main.pl is the entry point for each run.
