1. Acceptance of these Terms
By accessing or using CompileBytes (the Service), you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for it.
2. The Service
CompileBytes provides online compilers and runtimes, browser-based framework playgrounds, database playgrounds, developer utilities, runnable examples, downloads, and shareable code snapshots. No account is required and the Service does not currently offer user accounts.
Some tools operate entirely in your browser. Hosted compilers and database playgrounds send the content needed for a run to our execution API. The tool interface or documentation indicates the relevant mode.
3. Eligibility
You must be legally able to agree to these Terms. If you are under the age at which you can enter a binding agreement where you live, use the Service only with permission and supervision from a parent or guardian.
4. Your content
You retain your rights in code, files, input, and other material you submit (Your Content). You are responsible for Your Content and must have the rights needed to use it through the Service.
You give CompileBytes a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, transmit, and display Your Content only as needed to provide the feature you request, such as executing, downloading, or sharing it. This licence ends when the relevant content is deleted or expires, except where a limited copy must be retained for legal or security reasons.
5. Code execution and sandboxes
Hosted code runs in temporary, isolated environments with time, memory, output, process, and network restrictions. Sandboxing reduces risk but no security system is perfect. Do not submit passwords, API keys, private keys, confidential material, regulated data, or personal data you cannot safely disclose.
Execution is provided on a best-effort basis. Results may be incomplete, delayed, interrupted, or affected by compiler and dependency versions. You must independently verify output before relying on it in a production, safety-critical, financial, legal, medical, or other high-impact context.
6. Share links
When you create a share link, an encrypted snapshot of the included code, files, input, arguments, settings, and runtime references is stored for 30 days after its most recent successful view. Anyone with the link can view, copy, run, and re-share that snapshot. Share links are not a private storage or access-control system.
Shared snapshots are immutable, may expire without recovery, and are excluded from search indexing by our site controls. Those controls cannot prevent someone with the link from copying or publishing its contents.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the Service to attack systems, distribute malware, mine cryptocurrency, send spam, evade security or resource limits, infringe rights, break the law, attempt to escape a sandbox, or access another visitor’s content. We may throttle or block use that threatens the Service or other people.
8. Third-party services and software
The Service uses and may fetch software or resources from third parties, including open-source compilers, package registries, content delivery networks, security providers, and monitoring providers. Third-party software and content remain subject to their own licences and terms. We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their availability or content.
9. CompileBytes materials
Except for Your Content and third-party materials, the Service’s design, branding, text, examples, and software are owned by or licensed to CompileBytes. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you. You may use ordinary output and downloads the Service creates for you, subject to any rights in the source material and third-party licences.
10. Free service, availability, and changes
The Service is currently provided without charge. We may introduce limits or optional paid features, change or suspend features, or stop all or part of the Service. We do not promise that any feature, runtime, shared snapshot, or stored browser data will remain available. Keep your own backups.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without express or implied warranties, including warranties of accuracy, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement. Your use of the Service and any code or output is at your own risk.
12. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Subject to that, CompileBytes and its operator will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, opportunities, or data arising from the Service. Because the Service is currently free, our total liability arising from the Service will not exceed £100.
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may block, throttle, suspend, or terminate access where we reasonably believe use violates these Terms, threatens people or systems, exposes us to legal risk, or could materially disrupt the Service. Where appropriate, we may preserve and disclose evidence as required by law.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the date above and, for a material change, take reasonable steps to provide prominent notice before it takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means the updated Terms apply to later use; changes do not retrospectively alter an existing dispute.
15. Governing law
These Terms and any non-contractual dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction remain unaffected.
